Week 4, Day 1: Thursday, November 14, 2002
Not the greatest way to start the 4th week, unmotivated, unplanned, and tired. Knew there'd be food in the Alpha lab at work
for this week's testing, and although I ate mostly fruit and only one half of a sandwich, I ate candy bars (Halloween leftovers
I should have gotten rid of) off and on and then brought McDonald's burgers home for me and Magic after shooting the night
at Iron Sights. Could have been worse, as always, but it was nothing to brag about and I probably ate a good 2000 to 2200
calories for the day.
Week 4, Day 2: Friday, November 15, 2002
Similar to yesterday except less chocolate and more fruit. Still, didn't pay much attention to what I was eating, except for the
two (unfortunately) Krispy Kremes I had during the day and a KFC BBQ chicken sandwich for dinner. Didn't stay under 800 for the
day, but also probably didn't go over 1600 or so. In general it seems this is when it's all falling apart, having messed up really now for
five days, but I am halfway committed to getting back on track tomorrow and since I have the three hours of intense ping pong that
always feels good (in that painful, hurty, exercisy sort of way!), maybe I'll get back into the swing of things.
Week 4, Day 3: Saturday, November 16, 2002
Slept in 'til around noon but wanted to go play ping pong, so I got up and headed to the Club for a good three hours of that
play and good exercise! I'm so glad I found them! (Wish work didn't get in the way so much and that I could go play more with
them (during the week). Oh well. I'll take what I can get.
After the depressing past five days of non-dieting, I was determined to get back on the under-800 calories a day routine, but
it was just as hard as starting completely over. Drat. Oh well. Nonetheless, I was successful, so felt good about that. Here's what
I ate for the day:
12:17p |
1 banana |
101 |
4:10p |
1 apple |
65 |
5:53p |
2 Tb Fat Free salad dressing |
50 |
same time |
1/2 pkg Dole salad mix (mostly iceberg lettuce) |
30 |
same time |
2 slices Orowheat Oatnut toast |
200 |
same time |
2 4-oz 96% lean beef patties |
300 |
same time |
1 Tb relish and 1 Tb ketchup |
30 |
Total: |
776 |
Felt like painting, so I headed upstairs and started a new watercolor for several hours.
Week 4, Day 4: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Wanted to sleep in, but had a shotgun class starting at Rainbow at noon and needed to get stuff loaded in the trunk, sit outside with
Magic a bit first, etc., so I got up mid-morning. Felt good about having dieted well the day before, and although I felt fairly
optimistic about being able to keep on track this day, too, I've felt that before and failed, so I guess I would say that it was
guarded optimism.
Turns out I had urges off and on, like coming back home in the car from the Range, when it would have been easy and "habitual" to
stop at Albertson's and get a rotisserie chicken for me and Magic or get burgers at McDonald's so I'd have something neat to give
her when I walked in the door after having been gone for awhile (I do try to limit my time away from her, but I feel guilty). But,
I was able to abstain and just head home and stick to eating something more reasonable, measurable, and planned. Still had a salmon fillet
in the freezer from the few I bought near the start of this dieting, so I thawed it and fixed a nice salmon dinner for myself,
although I didn't have lemon, so I used a few drops of some soy sauce and lemon-flavored PAM cooking spray. It was yummy, though the
veggies were a disappointment and I ended up having to throw away much of what I'd wanted to eat (freezer burn, I guess, from
their having been in the freezer too long, even though the package still said they were good). So, here's what all I ended
up eating for the day:
11:10a |
1 small banana |
80 |
3:45p |
1 apple |
65 |
4:00p |
1/2 pkg salad mix |
30 |
same time |
2 Tb diet dressing |
50 |
6:00p |
1/2 pkg frozen Stir Fry veggies with asparagus |
60 |
same time |
6 oz. microwaved (with lemon PAM, soy sauce, salt, and pepper only) salmon fillet (unspecified type, so since the pink is almost half the calories as Atlantic, Chinook, or King, and there was an entry for "unspecified type" in my calorie book, I used that figure which was closer to the higher end) |
310 |
8:30p |
1 cup Crispix dry cereal |
110 |
9:30p |
1/2 wedge Laughing Cow Light Cheese |
17 |
same time |
1 Fun Size 3 Musketeers bar |
70 |
Total: |
792 |
Week 4, Day 5: Monday, November 18, 2002
Felt like I was going to blow it most of the day, though I didn't end up doing that and I ate a lot of vegetables and healthful stuff.
Just was a frustrating (Crystal Reports) kind of day at work and several co-workers pissed me off with their typical attitudes. At
any rate, I didn't "take it out" on the food nor myself, and came home, matted and framed a watercolor painting I plan to take
to the Art League meeting tomorrow night for judging (my first time), and then ate a big baked potato and watched some TiVo.
9:00a |
8 oz. diet V8 Splash (Tropical) |
10 |
12:20p |
1 Tb dry roasted almonds |
60 |
3:00p |
9-piece packaged California roll sushi |
296 |
4:00p |
1 packaged chicken Teriyaki oriental salad from Von's |
160 |
8:45p |
1 12-oz baked potato |
204 |
same time |
2 Tb sour cream |
60 |
Total: |
790 |
Well, finished the third day of this "re-start" and looks like I'm back on track and that's three days under 800 calories.
For some reason, I don't feel all that solid about it, but tomorrow is another day, so we'll see, and I have bananas and apples
at work and tuna and salmon as well, so it should/could be a healthful day. Let's hope so. I just really don't want to be struggling
with my weight (or fat and not struggling with it), all the rest of my life. I'm just so tired of that.
